Sunday's Sterling Silver - Both New and Vintage

To me, there is nothing like the earthiness and patina that sterling silver acquires as it ages and is exposed to the elements.

Some like their sterling silver like new with a great shine, but I love the aged look more.

My stores have a great selection of all types of sterling silver jewelry, so whichever you prefer, there will be something for every one.  Here is a look at some of lovelies.  For more information, just click on any of the pictures to go to the store.

Lovely marcasite, glass and sterling silver brooch/pendant.  Very Art Deco looking!

Mid Century Anton Michelsen Scandinavian Sterling Silver Brooch and earrings.

Very collectible Stuart Nye Vintage Dogwood Flower brooch and clip earrings.

I have dozens more sterling silver designs at Vintage Jewelry Lane.  Hope to see you there soon.

Two Amazing New Websites from my Friend Linda Kelly Lee

I have become good friends with a wonderful lady, Linda Kelly Lee.  She is the administrator of several networking groups on Facebook.

Today, I am giving a shout out to her.  She has just made two new websites.  They are loosely based on the Pinterest concept of adding interesting images.  Each website has a slightly different look and feel to it.

Also, she has the option for the readers to add some of their own images and we can link back to our websites, which is great for creating back links, which help with SEO.

Head on over to her sites.  Just click on either of the images and it will take you directly to the website.

30 ways to promote your blog posts.

Pinterest is a great place to share images and is a very popular website.  There are tons of images there with information.  It appears that photos grab the readers attention much more than just plain text.

With that in mind, I am sharing this image from LaunchGrowJoy.

The image is a handy photo with 30 tips for promoting your blog.    Hope it helps.

Gift Cards Now Available at Etsy

The holidays will soon be upon us. Each year, I seem to be more amazed than the last that the year has flown by so quickly.

Buying vintage jewelry as a gift can be hard unless you know exactly what style the recipient would like to wear.  Gift cards are a nice alternative in a case like this.

My shop at Etsy, Vintage Jewelry Lane now accepts gift cards purchased on Etsy.    Purchasing one could not be easier.   You can even customize the card with a few different logos.

To purchase a gift card, click Gift Cards at the top left of any page in my Etsy store.
Then choose “Email to a friend” to send an e-gift card or select “Print at Home” so you have a physical gift.   You then add it to the shopping cart, select the amount and pay.  That is all there is to it.

The recipient will then choose to use the card at checkout and their purchase will be paid for by the card.   At the moment, only shops who accept credit cards, and only US customers can use the Etsy gift cards.

Step into Autumn with My Networking Friends

It is hard for me to decide which season is my favorite.  Often, it seems to be the one that is yet to come.  I love each season as it starts, and then get tired of dealing with the heat or cold, or whatever downfall a season offers us.

But autumn is one that has always seemed to draw me in and keep me enthused about it.  I remember looking forward each year to the arrival of the autumn JCPenny and Sears catalogs.  I come from a very small town and there were not many retail stores.  Getting that catalog always inspired me.  To this day, I think of those days when the temperatures start getting colder.

My network friends and I are doing another blog hop.  I've asked them to share with me something from their stores or blogs which they associate with fall, cool temperatures and changing seasons.

If any of the images appeal to you, just click on them to go directly to their site for more information.  Grab a cup of coffee and join us as we "step into Autumn."

My Antique Pin Featured on a Ruby Lane Blog

Ruby Lane has a nice feature on their blog which allows individual sellers there to submit blog postings.  I do this every month.

I had a nice surprise this month, when one my my Ruby Lane items was featured on another seller's blog posting called "Harvest, Grapes and Wine".

The pin is a lovely example of an antique brooch with an extended pin  It is set in gold tone metal with a rope edge around a rectangular setting which has inlaid mother of pearl which has a bas relief grape and leaf finding with prong set turquoise glass beads. which is also  typical of Victorian jewelry.

You can see the listing for the pin in my Ruby Lane store Finishing Touch Vintage Jewelry.

Please also have a look at my friend Susan's store too. You can find her at Susan's Treasures on Ruby Lane.   Many thanks for featuring my pin Susan!

Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels - Auction Results

Sotheby's Auction House recently had an auction of magnificent jewels and jadeite in Hong Kong.  The results of the auction have been published.

A great majority of the lots did not sell.  Over optimistic estimates or a sign of the financial times perhaps?  Here are my favorites that actually sold.

OPAL, PINK SAPPHIRE AND BROWN DIAMOND 'SNAKE' RING sold for $32,500 HKD

JADEITE 'BUDDHA' CARVING sold for $200,000 HKD

SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND PENDANT sold for $82,250 HKD

JADEITE 'GUANYIN' AND DIAMOND PENDANT NECKLACE sold for $572,000 HKD.

Full auction results can be seen on this page of the Sotheby's website.

Christie's will Have Rings on the Auction Block this Tuesday

Christie's Auction House will be presenting he ring collection of Jurgen Abeler. The rings are  a comprehensive collection from antiquity to the present day.

From Christie's archive:  "The ring collection of J├╝rgen Abeler is outstanding for the sheer variety and quality it will offer collectors. From Egyptian to Roman, from 16th century pieces with rich provenance to modern conceptual design this collection tells the story of an ongoing love affair with rings. Abeler sought to illustrate a complete history of rings, seeking examples from as many periods and cultures as he could find he amassed one of the most extensive ring collections known."

The sale will take place on Tuesday, October 9 2012.  Here are a few of the highlights:

More information about the collection can be found on this page of Christie's site.
