Perfect for Thanksgiving - Dried Fruit Rings

After the probable overdose of sugar by many of us last night, I thought it might be appropriate to talk about something a bit more healthy today, both visually and in actual fact.

These unusual rings are made using silver and a dehydrator. When finished, the fruit is transformed into healthy wearable art. The fruit is dehydrated, which makes it hard and brittle and then assembled onto a simple silver ring. The result is completely edible (and should be eaten, since it will decompose if not eaten before this happens.) Any type of fruit can be used, but oranges, plums, kiwis and apples are common fruits chosen.

The unique creations are made by Cathy at La Prochaine Fois. She made these unusual rings as an art project and has made quite a name for herself in the process.

Cathy writes: The dehydrator is my new favorite toy. With it, I began to dry fruits and incorporate them with my work in metal. And what better way than to combine two things I love: jewelry and food. No more cheerio necklaces, I wanted something better! These rings are completely edible, except for the silver part of course. So if one is ever desperate for a munch… and not just any munch, a very delicious and healthy munch!

What a novel idea! Here are a few of her creations:
