Government Sale of Diamonds

If you have picked up a newspaper or watched news on television lately, you can't have missed the fact that our economy is in a mess and that the government (code for our children and grandchildren) owes more money than it can possibly pay back for many generations.

When people get in trouble with finances they often sell off some of their belongings to get a little cash, and jewelry is usually one of the first things to go. Perhaps the government has taken a leaf out of this book to pay of some of their debts.

The US treasury is having a diamond auction. The auction will take place at the New Yorker Hotel on March 20, 2009. Hundreds of various sized loose diamonds from the US treasury will be auctioned. Most were confiscated from an International money laundering scheme.

I doubt most of you will have money to spare right now, but buying from the US treasury might be a way to give back, and make the national debt our children and grandchildren have to pay not as momumental.
